Assist. Prof. Yelda ERTAŞ (Head of Department)

Dr. Yelda Ertaş graduated from the Department of Chemistry at Middle East Technical University (METU). She earned her master’s degree in Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine at Hacettepe University and completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Nanotechnology at the National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) of Bilkent University. During her Ph.D. and postdoctoral studies, she focused on producing nanofibers using electrospinning and exploring their use in filtration and high-performance composite materials. Dr. Ertaş has worked extensively with polybenzoxazine-based nanofibers, polymer/resin blends, and organic-inorganic hybrid materials. She has significant experience in environmental applications, including water treatment, molecular filtration, removing heavy metal ions, and separating dye molecules. She is skilled in advanced analysis techniques such as SEM, XRD, XPS, FTIR, TGA, DMA, DSC, and ICP-MS. Her work has been published in well-known international journals, and she contributed a chapter to the book Advanced and Emerging Polybenzoxazine Science and Technology.

Since 2021, Dr. Ertaş has been teaching at OSTİM Technical University, where she continues her research in polybenzoxazine resins, composite nanomaterials, functional nanofibers, and water treatment technologies.

     

 

  

 

Prof. Dr. Arif Demir

Prof. Dr. Arif Demir graduated from the Physics Department of Middle East Technical University in 1991 and completed his PhD in Physics at the University of Essex in 1997. During his doctoral studies, he conducted research on X-ray laser technologies at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (UK), the Max Planck Institute (Germany), and research centers in the Czech Republic and France. After his PhD, he began his academic career at Kocaeli University, where he led numerous scientific research projects in laser and plasma technologies, making significant contributions to national and international studies.
His research focuses on laser material processing, spectroscopy, nano-material production, and optical systems. He has actively participated in European Union (EU) projects in collaboration with LZH (Laser Zentrum Hannover) and INM Institute in Germany, developing industrial laser applications. With over 2,600 citations and an h-index of 27, his work has had a significant impact in his field.
Since 2025, Prof. Demir has been a full-time faculty member at the Nanotechnology Engineering Department of OSTİM Technical University. He is actively engaged in research with companies in the OSTİM Organized Industrial Zone, working on laser material processing, optical spectroscopy, and LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy). These efforts aim to integrate academic knowledge into industrial applications and develop innovative, domestically produced technologies.
Prof. Demir plays an active role in strengthening university-industry collaborations and advancing engineering education to align with industrial needs. His research includes laser technologies, plasma applications, advanced material characterization, and smart manufacturing systems. Committed to educating future engineers and researchers, he promotes project-based learning models that provide students with hands-on engineering experience.
As a leader in bridging scientific and technological innovations with industrial applications, Prof. Demir continues to collaborate with the industry to enhance Turkey’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities through cutting-edge research and development projects.
     

              

 

Prof. Dr. Halil Rıdvan ÖZ

Prof. Dr. Halil Rıdvan Öz received his bachelor's degree from the department of mechanical engineering at Middle East Technical University in 1992, his master's and doctorate degrees in machine theory and dynamics field from Celal Bayar University in 1995 and 1999 respectively. He investigated nonlinear vibrations of curved beams and vibrations of axially moving continua in his graduate studies. He received his associate professor degree in 2000. He conducted research on mucus clearance in respiratory airways at UNR in USA with a TÜBİTAK NATO B1 scholarship. He stayed at the same university for 2 years and taught various courses. Later, he returned to Turkey and worked at Gaziantep, Fatih, Üsküdar, Istanbul Aydın and Iğdır universities, respectively. His research interests include mechanical vibrations, perturbation techniques, differential equations, nonlinear dynamics, finite element analysis, signal processing, artificial intelligence, non-Euclidean geometry, and university competence analysis. He worked as a principal investigator or researcher in TUBITAK, KOSGEB, ISTKA and BAP supported projects. He provided management and R&D consultancy to many companies.

     

               

 

Assist. Prof. Atakan PEKER

Atakan Peker graduated from Boğaziçi University Mechanical Engineering and Physics departments and received his doctorate from California Technology Institute (CALTECH) on materials science. In his dissertation studies, he made and developed the invention of liquidmetal alloys (bulky metallic glass) together with his thesis teacher. Subsequently, he joined a start-up company so that the present invention could be transformed into a commercial product and developed by technology transfer. After his doctorate, he conducted scientific-technical researches in the private sector and university in USA for 21 years and also worked as an R&D manager. He has extensive experience in start-up, intellectual property, technology transfer and patent development. He has more than 40 patents and patent applications, and their commercial product sales and licensing revenues exceed $ 100 million. Most of these patents were licensed by the Apple company in 2011. He has more than 20 scientific publications with a total number of citations exceeding 5,000. In 2015, he joined IP and IBM Research and began working as Business Development Manager in Turkey related with these issues. Finally, he worked as the General Manager at YİTAL Mikroelektronik A.Ş.

     

 

              

  Assist. Prof. Ayimgül UZUNYOL

Ayimgül Uzunyol completed her undergraduate education at Xinjiang University Biotechnology Department (Xinjiang / China) in 2003 and her master's degree at Xinjiang University Life Science and Technology Institute Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Department in 2007. She completed her doctorate in 2012 at Kocaeli University, Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Biomedical Engineering. After graduating from his master's degree, he completed his PhD at the Institute of Traditional Uyghur Medicine at Xinjiang Medical University (Xinjiang / China). See. served as she. She worked as a manager and researcher in China's national projects until 2012, and she has papers and publications in national and international scientific events. During her doctorate, she worked as a researcher in TUBITAK projects at Kocaeli University, Clinical and Experimental Research Application and Research Center. She has been working as a lecturer at OSTİM Technical University Vocational School since January 2022.

     

             

  Assist. Prof. Okan Öner EKİZ

Dr. Okan Öner Ekiz completed his undergraduate education at Middle East Technical University (METU), Metallurgy and Materials Engineering Department in 2008. He received his master's and doctorate degrees from Bilkent University, National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), Materials Science and Nanotechnology Department. His undergraduate and post-graduate studies have been published and quoted in important international journals. He discovered the electrochemical reversible phase changes of Graphene and Graphene Oxide in his doctoral studies. Nanodev Scientific A.Ş. (2010) established the initiative. It has commercialized hard-to-reach research devices such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and delivered them to important R&D laboratories. His initiatives were deemed worthy of important awards in various events and competitions and were supported by many institutions. In addition to the company's activities, it organizes trainings in order to transfer its experiences to new entrepreneurs.

     

            

  Assist. Prof. Masoud LATIFINAVID

Assistant Professor Dr. Masoud LATIFINAVID holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. His expertise includes robotics, mechatronics, automation, and uncrewed systems. He has served as both a project manager and researcher in various national and international projects funded by organizations such as the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), the Ankara Development Agency, the Islamic Development Bank, the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Turkish Aerospace Industry.

In addition to his academic work, Dr. Latifinavid is actively involved in entrepreneurship. He has received several prestigious awards, including the 2017 Yeni Fikirler Yeni İşler Grand Prize, the ISDB-Transformers 2018 Award, and the ROBOİK 2019 Award. He specializes in using innovative techniques such as artificial intelligence and deep learning in modeling, controlling, and optimizing robotic, automated, and uncrewed systems during research and development processes.

     

              

 

Research Assist. Saliha SÖKEN

Saliha graduated from KTO Karatay University, Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering in 2020. She started his master's degree with thesis in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Necmettin Erbakan University in 2020. Her undergraduate thesis was on the production and characterization of boron carbide reinforced, 304 stainless steel matrix composites. Her fields of study are on composite and polymer materials.

 

 

     

 

          

 

Research Assist. Eylül YAKAR

Eylul Yakar graduated from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at TOBB University of Economics and Technology in 2022. The same year, she began her thesis-based master's degree in Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine at Hacettepe University. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in cell culture experiments and contributed to cancer research involving nanomaterials. She also worked with molecular biology techniques and conducted microbiology experiments. For her undergraduate thesis, she examined brain networks during mental arithmetic tasks.

In her master's studies, Eylul Yakar has been involved in various projects based on nanomaterials. She participated in a scientific research project focusing on high-resolution diagnostic and analysis systems by synthesizing specialized metal oxide nanoparticles. Additionally, for another project based on a water filtration system, she synthesized various forms of titanium dioxide, such as nanorods and nanowires, using hydrothermal methods. As part of the TUBITAK 1004 project, she synthesized nanostructures on the surface of titanium alloy through anodic oxidation and contributed to the investigation of the osseointegration of the synthesized material using various characterization techniques. Currently, for her master's thesis, she is working on synthesizing black titanium dioxide nanostructures using electrochemical methods and evaluating the antibacterial properties of these nanostructures.

Assoc. Prof. Abdülkerim Yörükoğlu

He was born in Sivas in 1968. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. He graduated from Hacettepe University Engineering Faculty Mining Engineering Department. He completed his master's degree in 1993 and PhD in 2000 from Hacettepe University, Institute of Science, Department of Mining Engineering. He started working as a Research Assistant at Hacettepe University in 1990. Dr. Abdulkerim YÖRÜKOĞLU later served as Engineer and Deputy General Manager at MTA and as Deputy Undersecretary at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources by proxy. He has been working as the President of the National Boron Research Institute "BOREN" since 2015. He is an expert in Mineral Processing and Hydrometallurgy, and in recent years, he has been working on total quality in management, performance management, project management, corporate resource planning. He has over 30 articles, publications and 7 patents, 10 of which are in international journals.
