1. Is there an English Preparatory Program?
The language of instruction for certain departments is 100% English in undergraduate programs. In associate degree programs, the language of instruction is Turkish, and English Preparatory education is optional. Students studying Optional English Preparatory Program do not need to take the Proficiency Exam, but they can start their departments with the certificate of the last course they have completed at the end of the year.
Within the scope of our English Preparatory Program, the English level of newly enrolled students at OSTİM Technical University is first determined through the Placement Exam.
Students who want to be exempt from the Preparatory Program can take the English Proficiency exam at the beginning of the Academic Year. Those who score 60 and above in this exam are exempted from the English Preparatory Program. Students whose English level is insufficient to start their departments directly are admitted to the English Preparatory Program starting from the determined level. Students are entitled to take 1 (one) Proficiency Exam free of charge.
In addition, those who take the external exams listed below and meet the required grade requirements are exempted from the Preparatory Program.
2. What are the exams and passing criteria for exemption from the English Preparatory Program?
Those who take external exams and meet the required grade requirements are exempted from the Preparatory Program. The validity of external exam certificates is determined as 2 years for TOEFL and IELTS and 5 years for YDS and YÖKDİL.

4. What is the duration of the English Preparatory Program?
The English Preparatory program consists of 4 levels: beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate, and upper-intermediate. Weekly class hours vary between 20-27 hours.
The standard education period in the Preparatory School is one academic year, and the maximum education period is two academic years.
Students who fail in the first year can enroll in the courses offered in the Summer School, taking into account their level. Students who do not prefer Summer School must repeat the English Preparatory Program for one more year on the condition that they fail in their first year.
5. How are students placed into levels in the English Preparatory Program?
The level at which students will study is determined according to the results of the Placement Exam at the beginning of the academic year.
6. What happens if I take the Placement Exam but do not take the Proficiency Exam?
Since it cannot be decided whether the student's level of English is sufficient for the program they are enrolled in, the student cannot continue their studies in their departments and will be placed in a level in the Preparatory School according to the score they get in the Placement Exam.
7. Where can I learn the results of the Placement and Proficiency Exams?
The results are announced in the 'Announcements' section of the Department of Foreign Languages on the OSTİM Technical University website. In addition, students can learn their grades by following the Student Information System.
8. Will a student's scholarship be terminated for repeating a course in the English Preparatory Program?
The scholarship provided to students placed in the scholarship programs of the university covers only the tuition fee up to the scholarship rate. These non-refundable scholarships cover the standard education and training period, including the compulsory English Preparatory Program.
9. What are the conditions for taking a leave of absence in the English Preparatory Program? How many semesters of leave can be taken? Is the annual tuition fee refunded if a leave of absence is taken?
Students may request a leave of absence for one or two semesters for justified and valid reasons. Students are required to pay half of the tuition fee during their leave of absence. Students are not allowed to take exams during the leave of absence.
10. Is there an attendance requirement in the English Preparatory Program?
There is an 85% attendance requirement for each level. Students who do not fulfill the attendance requirement must repeat the level.
11. When is my medical report considered valid?
Single-doctor medical reports are only valid for cases where the student cannot attend exams and cannot be used as a valid reason for absenteeism from classes. However, single-doctor reports issued due to situations such as traffic accidents, surgeries, etc., and committee reports can be considered valid reasons for a student's absence from classes. Reports exceeding ten days must be in the form of a committee report.
12. Where does the English Preparatory program take place?
The Prep School campus of our university is located in Eryaman: Altay Mahallesi, Söğüt Caddesi, 24/A, ERYAMAN/ANKARA. During academic periods, there is a shuttle service to and from our campus from the ERYAMAN 1-2 metro line.
13. Can I learn other languages while studying English Preparatory School?
A limited number of students can benefit from the Second Foreign Language courses offered in the Spring semester depending on their level of success in the English Preparatory School. Some of the languages offered in second foreign language courses are German, Russian, Turkish, and Spanish.
